As you may have noticed during recent visits to our campus, Napier Boys’ High School is currently buzzing with construction activity. This activity is part of a comprehensive plan to address the longstanding water-tightness issues that have plagued our school buildings, a legacy of 1990s architectural designs that did not stand the test of time. These issues have necessitated extensive restoration work, with an estimated 65% of our school infrastructure requiring attention.
After thorough investigations and detailed negotiations, the government embarked on a four-stage building programme aimed at remediation of these issues. We are pleased to report that Atkin Construction, the contractors tasked with this significant project, have been doing an exemplary job. Their expertise and commitment have brought about tangible changes, revitalizing buildings that had fallen victim to leaks and wear over the years.
In light of recent developments, where the government announced the suspension of school rebuild projects nationwide due to financial constraints, there was understandable concern within our community regarding the future of our school’s renovations. However, we have received reassuring news from the Ministry of Education. They have confirmed that the first three stages of our four-stage renovation schedule will proceed as planned. This commitment ensures that the majority of the necessary work will be completed, significantly improving our school facilities and environment.
Furthermore, the Ministry of Education’s property team is actively seeking funding solutions for the fourth and final stage of our renovation project, which includes the gymnasium. Given our school’s priority status and the practical benefits of having Atkin Construction already on site, we are confident that the necessary funds will be secured to complete all planned improvements.
This progress is a testament to the resilience and collective spirit of our school community. As we move forward, we remain committed to providing updates on the renovation process and ensuring that our school environment supports the highest standards of education and student well-being.
