Napier Boys High School Week Ahead

Week Ahead: Week 4, Term 2

Monday, 23 – Sunday, 29 May

Headmaster’s Kōrero

It is great to be back at school this term, working and learning in an environment that feels almost normal again. COVID has not yet passed, so those simple health messages such as staying home if you feel sick, getting tested if you show symptoms, following safe hygiene requirements and wearing a mask for added protection still resonate.

A lot is going on, which makes school life vibrant and interesting. At our core is learning. As we quickly approach the halfway point of the year, our seniors, especially, will need to be organised and manage priorities to ensure academically, they stay on track. Successful achievement outcomes derive from diligence, commitment, and effort.

We have some significant events on the school calendar coming up, starting this weekend, 20-21 May. This weekend Napier Boys’ High School will host the Super 8 School Cultural Festival. More than 500 boys will compete in events ranging from theatre sports and debating to musical performances, Pasifika and kapa haka. We are excited to be part of a Super 8 festival where young men can come together, compete, collegially support each other, and share their talents. Our Super 8 Schools do an exceptional job of providing our athletes with sporting opportunities to express their talents, this event aims to do the same for our artists and performers. The eight schools are Tauranga Boys’ College, Hamilton Boys’ High, Palmerston North Boys’ High, Hastings Boys’ High, Napier Boys’ High, New Plymouth Boys’ High, Rotorua Boys’ High and Gisborne Boys’ High School.

Finally, we look forward to celebrating 150 years of boys’ education over Queen’s Birthday weekend. A tremendous amount of time and effort has taken place in preparation. The school’s tradition, legacy and success has evolved from those who have come before us. The jubilee is an acknowledgement of all the people connected to this place. The school was, and is, their Tūrangawaewae (a place to stand). It is an opportunity for these ‘Napier Men’ to return, interact with old friends, reminisce about their school years (good or bad) and enjoy each other’s company.

Me tika te mahi, kia mataara

Do right and fear nothing

School Uniform Shop

The new and used uniform shops will be closed for several weeks. Both sites are part of the P Block refurbishment.

Students are still able to purchase uniform. Please have your son go to the school office and leave his order with Mrs Bellamy. Payment – cash, credit card or EFT-POS – will need to be made at this time. If your son is charging his school account, the funds must be ‘showing’ in his account at this time. Funds that are transferred by Internet Banking do not appear in the school account until the next day.

Please do not email an order. Once your son has placed the order it will be sorted during the normal uniform shop hours. Information related to collection will be given to your son when he places his order.

Unfortunately, used uniform will not be sold until the new shop opens. We apologise for the inconvenience. However, once the renovations have been completed, we look forward to welcoming everyone back into the updated shop.

Canteen

Similarly, the school canteen is being refurbished. The canteen will be closed Monday 23rd and Tuesday 24 May. At this time it will shift, temporarily, to the Hall Foyer. The canteen will reopen on Wednesday 25 May. It will offer a reduced range of food items at this time.
