Dear parents and caregivers

Tomorrow is the new start date for Term 2.

Device access

The vast majority of your sons have access to devices such as laptops, PC’s, iPad and chrome books. Roughly 50 or so will be using phones which are more of a challenge. A further 32 boys are waiting for delivery of additional school or Ministry provided devices. We have been unable to make any contact with 18 families through this time.

TEAMS update

Remember: it is not a normal timetable. Just in case you haven’t got it, here’s the link to the front page of our website for your son’s timetable: https://www.nbhs.school.nz/students/covid-19-digital-learning-information/digital-timetable/

Access issues? Studenthelpdesk@nbhs.school.nz

Importantly, we expect you to work on your courses whether or not you have a “face to face” lesson scheduled. There will be work posted which will need to be done prior to the first “face to face” lesson. Check your TEAMS and your school email.

Behaviour online

Please remind your son that anything they post on TEAMS can be viewed by staff; this is not a social media platform but a learning tool. Normal school rules apply for all students whenever they are using this online platform whether in ‘discussions’ with fellow students or when posting to whole groups or their teachers. Pastoral

Please encourage your son to use the wellbeing links on our website or in the attached resource. You can also use them. If you are having trouble getting your son to engage in online learning, then their Dean is the first point of contact.

Parents, you may find the attached handout courtesy of the Porirua Child and Adolescent Mental Health service useful; lots of great resources on keeping our families well and safe during this challenging time. –> COVID-19 Resource Compilation

What does a re-start look like if we move from Level 4 next Wed 22 April?

We cannot speculate, but expect your son’s online learning to continue next Thursday and Friday (23/24 April) at a minimum.

Once details are released next Monday, we will advise you of our next steps. We are planning for several contingencies.

Best wishes

Matt Bertram
